Availability of permits for the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu 2-Days; 4-days; 5-Days and 7-Days
Inca Trail permits are issued on October 1 of each year. The Peruvian government only issues 500 permits per day (that is, 200 permits are assigned to travelers and the rest to cooks, guides and porters) due to the conservation and great popularity of this unprecedented trail. Here is our easy-to-use Inca Trail availability calendar to see if still there are availability.
Inca Trail Availability or Permits is required to trek in any part of Machu Picchu National park. If you want to trek to the Classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu or the Short Inca Trail, you will need permits. This permit requires details for the route and region.
- The Classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu and the Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu require permits from the Peruvian government, so that you need to reserve your tour long in advance.
- The Classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu and the Short Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, are closed every year in February for maintenance; so this month is not available.
- The availability applies to the Inca Trail itself and not to our Agency. Any Agency, you will choose to have the same availability. Therefore, it is useless to contact another Agency if the date you want is not available.
The Inca Trail availability is controlled by the Peruvian Ministry of Culture. Only they are able to manage and authorize the access.
According to the current regulations (Resolution nº 02-2003-UGM-CD), the access to Classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is limited to 500 people per day, including the staff. For this reason, the number of available spaces on this page corresponds to spaces for 200 trekkers or tourist and 300 approximately are for the staff(Guides, porters, etc).
The high season generally runs from MAY TO SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER. Each year it varies, but you are advised that if you are travelling during the high season that you need to start booking your permits at least 5 months in advance. BOOK EARLY.

Important notes:
Inca Trail permits are not refundable or transferable to another person since the Ministry of Culture does not return money to travel agencies when clients change dates or cancel. The agency must then purchase a new permit if a client changes their date.
You must provide to your travel agency with the same data of the passport with which you will travel to Peru. There are 4 checkpoints along the classic Inca Trail, rangers will verify permits with your passport; if a new passport does not match the document on the permit, you are not allowed to start your journey! If you renew your passport, you must send a copy of your old passport and new passport to the travel agency so they can change it for you.
